ANGELANN FLORES

Fighting for our students and teachers

I am running for Stockton Unified School District Board of Trustees for Area 2 because all students need and deserve a quality education designed to lift up students out of poverty, increasing our region's competitive edge with our kids at the center.

I am running because we need to increase transparency and accountability. I have defended our hard earned taxpayer dollars with every tool at my disposal. I've pushed to live stream board meetings during the height of the pandemic and been persistent in tracking every dollar spent and every contract made. Our students deserve nothing less.

My work as Trustee, just like my time in the STEP UP Afterschool Program, is centered on students, their families, and our selfless teachers and classified employees, who bore the negative impacts from lack of effective leadership and action during COVID from my colleagues. This is why when those in my area have faced issues at their school sites, I always acted on their behalf for better outcomes. I'm proud to have planned student safety measures at our schools, by updating our school infrastructure and increasing our greenspace, which has been lacking for years.

As your Trustee, during my time on the 3x3 Ad-Hoc Committee, I partnered with our regional stakeholders, including the Stockton City Council and other law enforcement agencies to organize better local traffic plans for our student pickup/drop off areas. I also led the creation of work groups tasked with advancing dual language programs for our ESL students to reduce language barriers, so they too can get ahead. But we must do so much more to increase equity for students, particularly for special education students and professionals.

I made a promise to you when I knocked on your door in 2018. I have proven my leadership. I have always advocated for better results for our students, which is why I insisted on more oversight for the concerns highlighted in the multiple reports from the San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury.

I am a mother of 4 and grandmother to 4 beautiful grandkids. Just like how I've fought for my family for years, I will fight for your kids and  families. I would be humbled and honored to earn your vote by November 8th, so that together we may continue advocating for strong schools and healthy communities. It is now time to Rebuild, Restore, and demand Results to ensure all children succeed.
